Trattoria Blog Hop!!

So today I am working with Club Scrap's Trattoria kit. 

Supplies:
Mat Board
Cardstock
Flower brads
Tags
Floss
Large Matchboxes - or make or own using cereal boxes
Modge Podge or Bookbinding glue
Embellishments

Instructions:
To create this 4 way drawer Tower - you will need 12 large matchboxes (you can buy these at the dollar store) - I did not have quite enough of them - So I deconstructed one of the boxes I did have and used it as a template, and used old cereal and snack boxes to create more 'drawers' as you can see in the steps here:

Score edges with bone folder:

 Adhere flaps to box and use clips to hold together while drying:

To create tower - I used mat board - I get my board board from a local frame shop - I can buy a big bag of 'scraps' for like $10 and there is always something in that bag I can work with....so here I have cut a of pieces.  I have cut 24 pieces 1 1/5 x 4 7/8 and 4 pieces 7 3/4 x 7 3/4.

Use adhesive to adhere short pieces to large piece as shown:

Adhere next (4) short pieces as shown:

Make sure the matchboxes comfortable fit in the slots as shown:

Adhere the large piece on top as shown:

Adhere short pieces on 2nd level as shown:

Adhere large piece as shown:

Adhere short pieces on 3rd level as shown:

Add large piece as shown:

Decorate with Club Scrap Trattoria kit as shown:

Use flower brads on drawers with tags to allow you to pull drawers open and label drawers.

Scandinavia Blog Hop!!

So today I am working with Club Scrap's Scandinavia kit. 

Sooo I know I have written about my little rock fetish before - but I just love how much it makes people happy. AND I am not talking about just kids - we all know how much kids love to find rocks, but adults love finding rocks too!! I just got back from Clubscrap retreat and last year at retreat I had painted a bunch of rocks and left them around for the other retreat goers to find. Well this year everyone was soooo disappointed I hadn't repeated the same thing. One gal told me a story that when she is in a bad mood, she will go find her rock, pick it up and rub it, and it brightens her mood. Do you know how good that makes ME feel??? Just knowing what a simple thing I do, can bring such joy to someone else, just really makes me happy!!!

So anyways here in my local town last summer we started a Facebook rock group - it was very small - like 20-30 people for the longest time...but in the last couple of months it has just boomed...we now have 800 people in our group - I know doesn't sound like a lot, but I don't live in a real large area here in Montana. I love to leave rocks around town and read the stories that come in from folks on the group, it always leave a smile on my face!!

So when the Scandinavia kit came out - I just knew these rubberstamps would be perfect for decorating rocks. Let me show you how to make some pretty rocks that you could leave around your town too and make your local peeps happy too - spread the love!!

TIPS:
Find FLAT rocks...they are easiest to rubberstamp on!! (I get mine at a big huge river with gajillions of rocks).
Place your unmounted rubberstamp onto a mouse pad, sticky side on the pad. This allows a little more flexiblity with trying to stamp on a rounded edges of the rock.
Don't touch the HOT rock!! Let me repeat that: DON'T PICK UP THE HOT ROCK!!!

Supplies:
Flat Rocks
Spray Paint
Versamark ink
Rubberstamps
Embossing powder
Polycrylic spray

Instructions:
Start by finding a bunch of flat river rocks, if you don't have a river around, you can purchase rock by the pound from landscaping companies. I think you can also purchase at craftstores. I then spray painted my flat rocks with different colors of Matte paint as shown in the photo:

Next place your unmounted stamp onto a mouse pad - sticky side onto pad, use Versamark ink to ink stamp, place rock onto the stamp face, careful roll the rock around to ensure full coverage of stamp onto rock. This is a little tricky.

Next add embossing powder, I used all sorts of different colors even some with tinsel in it, they all seemed to work great:

Next use heat gun to melt embossing powder - now TIP here...it will take a LONG TIME - like way long - like looooonnnnngggggg - OK maybe not that long but if embossing on paper takes say 30 seconds, the rock takes (I am guessing) 2 or 3 minutes...I think that whole darn rock needs to heat up before it melts...but eventually it does...BUT DON'T PICK UP THE HOT ROCK!!!! It will be HOT and probably burn your fingers. I just slide rock onto a piece of cardstock and moved off to the side to cool down. Takes them quite some time to cool down too!!

On the back side of each of my rocks - I put the name of our rock group - occassionally I leave my initials too - and if there is room, I will write "keep or rehide". I have paint pens that I use for this - a lot of gals use Sharpies - which work - but you have to be careful when spraying the protective coating, as it will 'run' unless you spray a very VERY light coat first, let it dry. I use Posca paint pens - the super fine ones are awesome for writing. Some folks use Gel pens with good luck too - so just experiment and see what works for you!! If you are like me, you already have a nice stash of pens in your craft room!!

IMPORTANT LAST STEP is to spray the rocks with polycrylic sealing spray. Do a light first coat, let dry. Then a repeat a few more times to ensure a decent protection on rock. Do on both sides of rock!! This protects it when putting it back out there for others to find it!! Gives the rocks a nice shine while being protective at the same time!!

Club Scrap Delft Blog Hop

Delft Blog Hop!!

Today I am working with Club Scrap's Delft Digi Kit.This is such a pretty kit - I am really loving the 'broken dishes' design on the papers!! Here are the 3 layouts I did today for the blog hop using this fantastic kit:

 On this above layout - I used a 'button' element and colored them either dark or light blue, then I took the flower digital image and make it into a brush (select image, go to Edit, Define brush preset) and then painted white flowers on the dark blue buttons and dark blue flowers on the light blue buttons.

On this above layout, I again created brushes with the various digital images and increased the brush size very large to blow up the images big to use as frames.  In order for the white to stand out against the background - I increased the the size of the drop shadows a lot to give them lots of shadow and make them pop!!

London Calling Blog Hop

Club Scrap "London Calling" Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog today!!  So glad to have you here.  Well it is definitely still winter here in Montana but that just gives me more of a reason to stay inside and be creative!!

This month I am making these cute little boxes by upcycling cereal boxes:

You can get the template for these boxes and more detailed instructions HERE.

Using template - draw onto the cardboard boxes.

Cut out the pieces.

Use bone folder and ruler to score lines along each flap.

Fold up the flaps.

Use tape to tape the flaps together.

After I made my original set above, I made another set and covered each of the cardboard pieces with patterned paper from the London Calling kit:

Instead of using regular tape, I used the washi tape from the kit to tape the flaps together on each box:

 Decorated top with flowers, ribbon, and a wee lil bird...

Valentine's Day Blog Hop - I love Canvas!!

Club Scrap "Valentine's Day" Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog today!!  So glad to have you here.  I have been very busy, my son is in driver's ed and wants to drive ALL THE TIME...This has been keeping me outta the house more than usual.  I am glad he is so excited though and it is hard to say no to that kid!

Well if you follow my blog at all, you know I really enjoy making canvases.  I have a new office and there is some big holes in the wall from the previous occupant, and I need to make some art to cover those spots - so here is one of them!!

SUPPLY LIST:
Canvas
Tissue Paper
Rubberstamps
Cardstock
Gesso
Embellishments
Modge Podge
Pop dots

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.  Paint canvas with gesso - cover entire surface - let dry.
2.  Cut a piece of tissue paper larger than the size of the canvas you are using, this will wrap around to the back of the canvas.  Stamp various images all over the tissue with black india ink.

3.  Cover surface and sides of canvas with modge podge.

4.  Quickly lay tissue over canvas where you would like it to lay.  Tissue is very fragile and will rip easily, especially if covered in modge podge, but if you happen to tear, you can just stamp an extra image on another piece of tissue and patch the spot.  Wrap around the back of canvas and set aside to dry.

5.  Once dry - spritz with Dylusions spray ink.  Use paper towel to spread ink if desired.  Let dry.

6.  Now cut 4 rectangular panels from 2 shades of pink and a bunch of hearts in different shapes and sizes.

7.  Stamp on hearts if desired.  Ink edges.  Adhere hearts onto panels with popdots.   Embellish with pearls, charms, ribbon, etc.  Adhere the 4 panels to the canvas.  Do final embellishment with hearts.
