Baby Brag Book

I made a lil baby brag book for my niece who recently had her first baby... She had sent or posted quite a few photos in the first few months after the birth, so I was able to put this together and then added a few pages with empty photo mats for them to add in additional photos.  She really likes owls and so I decorated a lot of the album with a little owl from the Club Scrap Scandinavia kit.  Here is a few sample pages out of the book:

Hot Glue Gun "Faux Soldering" Painting

Supplies Needed:

(1) Pre-gesso'd Canvas Panel (any size)

Black acrylic paint

Gold metallic acrylic paint

White gesso paint

Cheap tablecloth (from dollarstore)

Tools Needed:

Pencil

Glue Gun & Lots of glue

Paint brushes

small dish for thinning paint

Cup for washing paint brushes

Paper towels

1.   Take a pencil and sketch out a design of your choice.  Good first designs include a tree or a flower, just do a google search and find a pretty simple image to follow. Using glue gun follow design on the canvas.

2.  Once glue is cooled down, paint gesso over all the glue and let it dry.

3.  Once gesso is dry, paint gold metallic paint all over glue and canvas covering entire surface.  Let dry.

4.  Once dry, put a small amount of black acrylic paint into a small mixing dish and add water to thin.  Paint over canvas and dab with paper towel to remove excess paint as you go.

5. (Optional step) You can add additional metallic colors onto the raised images if desired, or you can add another layer of  thinned acrylic paint in an additional color if desired.

Club Scrap Pattern Play Blog Hop

Pattern Play Blog Hop!!

Hello and welcome to today's blog!!  Today I am working with Club Scrap's Pattern Play Kit.  I am totally in love with the colors of this kit - with the summer in full bloom the kit reminds me of margaritas with that yummy Lime color!!  So I found these great teas that help reduce stress and I have been giving samples of them away to friends and family to try out, so I found this fun idea online to put teabags in - it holds 6 teabags - and thought I would share with all of you!!  This would make an awesome teacher gift, thank you gift, co-worker gift, stocking stuffer, etc.

Supplies:
(3) 6x6 sheets cardstock
Ribbon
Embellishments
Book binding adhesive
Hole punch

Instructions:

Use this diagram as a template for scoring 3 pieces of 6x6 pieces of cardstock.

Start by centering the 6x6 as a diamond on the scoreboard - score 1.5inches to the left and right of the center as shown:

Rotate the diamond, score down the center of the diamond, score 3/4th in to the right and again to the left as shown:

 Repeat with all pieces as shown:

 Use book binding glue and adhere one flap of each of pieces together, creating a chain and use a hole punch to punch a hole at the tip of triangle as shown:

Slip a teabag into each of the pockets, 6 teabags total and slide a ribbon through the holes:

Pull the ribbon tight and tie the ribbon closed as shown:

ClubScrap Artist Team Monthly Challenge (August)

AUGUST ARTIST CHALLENGE 

The August challenge means “back to school” for many households, so we though it would be fun to incorporate that theme into the August challenge. Some suggestions: Teacher gifts, desk organization ideas, calendars/planners, Back to School scrapbook pages.

Well I just got back from Vancouver, WA where I was working for a week. Just prior to going there, I painted a bunch of rocks to leave as 'Abandoned Art'. Normally I leave earrings, but decided to mix it up and make a bunch painted rocks. Here is a sampling of some of the rocks I have been painting:

While I was in Vancouver bored in my motel room - I brought a bag of rocks I had previously painted black and brought my paint and tools to paint more rocks:

Well I was telling my co-workers about my little project and one of them said - have you heard of "Vancouver Rocks"? well no I hadn't...so I looked into it. It is a facebook group dedicated to painting rocks and leaving little pieces of Art all over the Vancouver area. It is a fairly new group and already over 15,000 people in the group. Well funny that I had just hauled a bunch of rocks to town to leave...seemed like fate!

Anyways since I am on this little kick and this challenge came along - I thought why not try rubberstamping on rocks and they could be great little paper weights for Teacher gifts.

TIPS:
Find FLAT rocks...they are easiest to rubberstamp on!!
Place your unmounted rubberstamp onto a mouse pad, sticky side on the pad. This allows a little more flexiblity with trying to stamp on a rounded edges of the rock.
Don't touch the HOT rock!!

I started out thinking about using white Stazon ink, but didn't happen to find my pad quickly enough. I ran across my embossing powders and decided to give them a try first. I used my versamark pad and stamped on my previously painted black rocks:

Add embossing powder - use heat gun to melt embossing powder - now TIP here...it will take a LONG TIME - like way long - like looooonnnnngggggg - OK maybe not that long but if embossing on paper takes say 30 seconds, the rock takes (I am guessing) 2 or 3 minutes...I think that whole darn rock needs to heat up before it melts...but eventually it does...BUT DON'T PICK UP THE HOT ROCK!!!! It will be HOT and probably burn your fingers. I just slide rock onto a piece of cardstock and moved off to the side to cool down. Takes them quite some time to cool down too!!

I tried a few different colors of embossing powders even one with tinsel in it...they all seemed to work just fine. When I was done and the rocks had cooled, I added a bit more color using acrylic paints. Last step is to spray the rocks with polycrylic sealing spray. Let dry and spray both sides. Gives the rocks a nice shine while being protective at the same time!!

Anyways I think these will be awesome gifts for the teachers...I am thinking when I go next week to all the classrooms to meet the teachers, I could just casually leave a rock behind as a little surprise!!

ClubScrap Artist Team Monthly Challenge (June)

JUNE ARTIST CHALLENGE

The June challenge is to incorporate the Hypno special edition collection papers into pages, cards or other projects. There are 3 amazing different sets of papers. For my Projects I used version #1.

I saw this great idea on Youtube that would be great for gift giving - and these papers were a perfect fit for this project.

Cut cardstock 11x12 and score lines per the dimensions in the video:

 Fold on score lines in both directions:

 Cut up to score line along top and bottom:

 Trim one end into the triangles:

 Ink all the edges:

 Cut papers 1.5 x 7.75 and ink edges:

Adhere the papers to the cardstock:

Put adhesive on extra flappy and adhere to other side creating a round tube shape:

Glue bottom flaps:

Punch holes in triangle and weave ribbon through to create tied closure:
