National Scrapbook day.....Club Scrap Blog Hop: Travel Art Kit.

Happy National Scrapbooking Day!!!  Welcome to ClubScrap's iNSD Blog Hop!!!

So I wanted to make a travel art kit.  Something really small that could fit in my pocket or purse.  Then when we are at a restaurant for dinner, or waiting for kids during karate, or even on my lunch break...I could doodle and do a small art journal...just a lil something to keep the creative juices flowing anywhere I may be....

I decided to also make one for a very dear friend, whom is always so busy she rarely has time to create, even tho I know she really wants to...maybe she, too, will find a lil time here and there to play and do something artsy to make her day a lil better creatively speaking and more fulfilling!!

I used numerous ClubScrap sentiment stamps - they have SO MANY super fabulous ones to pick from - to create these two projects -

For one of the tins, I used Spring Chorus kit and the other is Wild Flowers kit.

 

Each kit includes a little case (an altered tin from candy the kids received at christmas time, measures about 4.5x3.5) - in the case I have watercolor paints, paint brush, pencil, pencil sharpener, some water, and a spiral bound book of watercolor paper.  I cut the watercolor paper to fit the tin and bound them using my bind-it-all machine.

 Instructions:
1.  Started out by creating the little spiral ring watercolor paper sets, by cutting watercolor paper to size, then punch out the holes and bind with the bind-it-all system.

2.  I rubberstamped various images and sentiments and then watercolored the covers of the art journals.

3.   Then I took air dry clay and put a chunk into the tin that fills about 2/3rds the inside of the container, leaving space for the pencil, paint brush, water, etc.  I left about 1/2 inch deep.

4.  Then I used a little bottle to create the divots for the watercolor paint.

5.  Let this dry, it will shrink a little bit - then I pulled out, filled with paint, and then glued (using a hot glue gun) back into the tin.

5.  Next I cut cardstock to fit the tin, and rubberstamped images and sentiments on the front and back pieces.  I then modge podged the cardstock pieces to the tin.  Here is MY tin, this is the front side of it, I used papers from the the "Wild Flowers" Club Scrap kit:

6. I also cut a 1/2 in wide piece of cardstock to run around the edge of the tin - I rubberstamped a sentiment on it and modge podged to the tin.

 I sure hope my dear friend likes her tin, can't wait to have my tin done and ready to travel with me...I look forward to future playtimes with it!!

Home Decor - Hot Air Balloon Wall Art

Welcome to Club Scrap's Up Up & Away Blog Hop! So glad you came. We were challenged to make something from February's Up Up and Away kit to share with you.

 Up, Up and Away Wall Art

 I made this great Wall art using all the different Hot Air Balloons from ClubScrap's Up, Up and Away kit in all of the colors of the rainbow!!

To create this project:

1.  Get a 8.5 x 11 frame.  Take 8.5x11 teal cardstock for background.
2.  Tear a 9 in wide piece of cardstock to give rough edge to it.  Hold this piece across the teal cardstock and using a sponge, ink sponge and rub off of torn piece onto the teal cardstock lightly.  Repeat process, moving torn paper around to create 'clouds' onto the background.
3.  Rubberstamp "city skyline" from ClubScraps' Bright Lights, Big City kit in black ink at bottom edge of cardstock.
4.  Create balloons (see instructions below) in various colors and adhere to background.
5.  Rubberstamp "Be a Rainbow in someone else's cloud." sentiment in red ink on white cardstock, cut out and adhere on popdots.
6.  Insert project into the frame and you are done!!

Instructions to make 3D Balloons

1.  Rubberstamp Hot Air Balloon of choice 5 times onto cardstock.

2.  Trim out one balloon as the main base balloon.  Punch the other five balloons out with a circle cutter or punch. Ink edges of each piece.

3.  Fold each of the balloons in half.

4.  Adhere the 5 balloons together, leaving the final 2 flaps not adhered.

I used liquid adhesive, so then I would put the stack of 5 balloons into a clip to dry:

5.  Once adhesive was dry, Add adhesive to the back two flaps of the balloon and adhere to the main base balloon.

These can be made with pretty much any size of ClubScrap's balloon images.  I used some of the teeny tiny ones, clear up the the large one.

Earring Rack - Altered Serving Tray

So this weekend I was holding a garage sale and in order to not waste time - I opted to make earrings while sitting and spending my time dealing with yardsalers... I wanted to also display the earrings that I made and if people wanted to buy a pair they could, but these earrings are really going to be my Abandoned Art gifts in the end.

So Friday night I wanted to quick make up a rack to hold the earrings.  I started out with a plain jane wooden serving tray (from like Joann's).

White paint
Club Scrap Papillion kit
Mosaic tiles
Tissue paper
Rubberstamps
Ink
Screen (like used in a screen door - from Home Depot)
Staples
Modge Podge

1.  I painted the tray white and let it dry.

2. While the tray was drying, I rubberstamped butterfly images, from ClubScrap's Papillion kit, onto tissue paper and trimmed them out.

3.  Once the tray was dry, I modge podged the butterflies onto the tray and let them dry.
4.  I then adhered patterned paper into the inside of the tray.

5.  I used self stick mosaic tiles (from the Papillion kit) and ran them along both insides of the tray on the 'walls' of the tray.

5.  Lastly I cut a piece of screen mesh to wrap around and staple to the back side of the tray.

Altered puzzle pieces, Teal/Purple

Here are some photos of the 'Altered Puzzle Pieces" that I made for the ClubScrap retreat swap. These are roughly 2 in x 2 in. I painted them in teal and purple, let them dry. Then I stamped the circle word stamp with silver paint, let dry. Then I inked all the edges in copper ink. Added beads, charm and alcohol inked metal flowers for accents.

Pizza Box Paper holders

So I on average, get 3 pizza boxes a month. Club Scrap, Club Scrap Jr., and Club Stamp. I generally combine the 3 kits together and then I have an extra two boxes a month...once I get a stack of them, I will cut them into either stacking drawers for wood mounted rubberstamps, or into these paper holders. Cheap and easy storage for extra paper!!

Altered - Mini Serving Tray Frame

This is one of my all time favorite kits that Clubscrap has put out - this is a lil tiny serving tray - all you could really serve on it - would be a coffee cup and maybee some cookies...but of course I chose to turn it into a Frame and I keep it at my desk at work.

Supplies:
Serving tray
Rubberstamps
Ink
Tissue paper (gift wrap type)
mosaic tiles
White paint
modge podge
crafter's pick adhesive
ribbons, charms, beads

1. Paint the tray white and let dry.

2. Stamp leaf & word images onto white tissue paper and trim out.

3. adhere the tissue paper images to the tray by applying an thin coat of modge podge and then laying the image onto it. Let dry.

4. Mat photo and adhere to center of tray.

5. Using crafter's pick adhesive, glue mosaic tiles across to top and below the photo. Let dry.

6. Run a bead of glue around the entire inside edge of the tray and add various beads. Let dry.

7. Add ribbons, fibers, charms, etc to the top handle.

Altered - Clipboard - Calendar

"Altered Clipboard" Flip Photo Calendar

Supplies:
7x7 Clipboard: Club Scrap
Pesto; Cranberry; and Eggplant Inks: Ranger
Black ink: Superior Palette Noir Black
“2006,” “Calendar,” “screws,” “numbers” rubberstamps: Club Scrap
“Month words” stamps: My Sentiments Exactly
Crackle Medium: Craft Store
Acrylic paint: Delta
Metal binder: Dollar store
Silk flowers: Dollar Store
Zig Marker
Sizzix page tabs diecut
Quickutz photo corners diecut
Ribbons: Lil Davis, Michaels, Club Scrap
Chain: Club Scrap

Instructions:

1. Paint clipboard brown. Let dry.
2. Paint clipboard with crackle medium. Follow instructions on bottle. Let dry.
3. Paint clipboard cream. Let dry. It will crackle.
4. Drill 2 holes in the upper right and upper left hand corners. Tie various ribbons and fibers to the clipboard.
5. Take a green silk flower and a burgundy silk flower apart and intermix them – put them back together and adhere to clipboard handle.
6. Take a cheap address book from the dollar store and tear it apart, getting just the metal binder.
7. Cut 13 sheets of patterned cardstock 4.25in x 4.75in in green, blue, and burgundy.
8. Punch 6 holes across the top of each sheet matching up with the binder. Rubberstamp “screws” over top of the holes in eggplant.
9. Ink all edges of the 13 sheets alternating between eggplant, cranberry, and pesto inks.
10. Place the 13 sheets into the binder.
11. For the cover, rubberstamp “2006” on different colors of scraps, cut out and ink edges. Adhere to a mat on cover sheet.
12. Cut 12 sheets 3.25in x 4.25in in cream cardstock. Rubberstamp “calendar” on each one. Ink edges in the three inks.
13. Stamp “numbers” onto the calendar pages and adhere to pages in the binder. Add page corner diecuts for embellishments.
14. Stamp “month word” on cream cardstock, ink edges and adhere to pages for each month.
15. Cut and mat various small photos to the pages for each month.
16. Diecut page tabs and handwrite in the months on both sides, adhere to appropriate pages.
17. Run chain through the metal binder and you can hang the ‘closed’ calendar around the metal handle on the clipboard, or use the clip to hang the “opened” calendar pages.
18. Hang on wall and enjoy for a whole year.

Elves Album Recap 2008

This is our 2008 Holiday Elves album recap. I made two - a green (for youngest son) and a red version (for my eldest son) - they started out as a clear plastic 3x5 card holder, that I spiffy'd up using alcohol inks, metallics, ribbons and beads...

I picked up these two plastic cases at the Dollar Tree for a buck!! Then I started by dropping drops of alchol inks inside the plastic cover and spread it around, I used multiple colors along with some of the metallic alcohol inks.

I used my cropodile to punch holes around the front flap and then threaded the metallic ribbon through the holes and tied them at the top. I also punched holes on the sides and threaded waxed thread and beads and charms.

I also used stickles to write my kids names on the front each book - let me just tell you now - that doesn't work - the plastic is just too slippery or what have ya - cuz it wouldn't stay on there!!

Each accordion album included a bunch of the photos of our busy lil 'elves' that spend the month prior to Christmas visiting (and getting into things...almost as bad as our new lil kitty). I like to do a recap every year - it is fun to look back at all the fun things the elves are involved in each year.

Mini Album - Paper Bag Book

This creates a unique mini scrapbook. One should note, that standard lunch bags may not be acid free, if that is important to you, be sure and locate acid free bags before starting your project. This is a great project to do with your older kids too. Most all rubberstamps used in this project are from Club Scrap (www.clubscrap.com)

Supplies needed:

~(3) lunch bags, brown or any color (for the book itself)
~Pattern paper
~Cardstock
~Various inks
~Various rubberstamps
~Various ribbons or fibers
~Eyelets, brads, or other book binding materials

1. Take the three paper bags and flip the middle one. So that it is open, close, open similar to drawing (diagram A). (Note: you can use more than 3 paper bags if you like)

2. Sandwich the three bags together and fold in the middle. The dimension of the book will be approximately 5.25 in x 5.25 in.
3. Bind your bags together. This can be in any number of ways. You can use eyelets and ribbon, brads, standard book binding techniques, or just staple it. If you use eyelets, you can go through all 6 layers of the paper bags if you have long shafted eyelets OR I just went through 3 layers at a time with standard eyelets and used 4 eyelets total. It is a little difficult to keep your bags all lined up while punching the holes, one easier way is to just measure each bag separately and punch the holes and then they will line up perfectly. In the project shown, I used 1 inch from the edge as my measurement. (diagram B)
4. Once you have the eyelets in, you can add your ribbon or fibers and any charms you like.
5. Now I did NOT cut the ends of my bags off, but others have to allow for more pages, so that is completely up to you and the look you are going for.
6. At this point I ran ink pads all along the edges of all the pages.
7. I cut out 4 tags (to slip into the openings of the bags) sized about 4.25 x 4.75in and added little flaps for pulling them out (you could easily use ribbon here instead) I wanted the word LOVE for this particular project. (Note: you could easily do up to 6 tags, since there is slots for that many).

8. I then cut pattern paper pieces about 4.75 in x 5 in to cover all of the pages. I inked all edges of my pattern paper.
9. I rubberstamped various sayings and images through out the book.
10. I then added my photos, matting with coordinating cardstock and inking edges.
11. I added various embellishments, such as brads, charms, stickers, metal sayings, and ribbon.
