Club Scrap Paradise Blog Hop

Paradise Blog Hop!!

Today I am working with Club Scrap's Paradise kit.  If you haven't seen the adorable little parrot rubberstamp in the UM sheet - check it out - it was my total inspiration for this project.  I love parrots, my kitchen is decorated in parrots...Love their bright colored feathers - makes me Happy!!

So I made two projects - The first as shown above - is a parrot in a cage within an explosion box.  The second project - you are probably going to think I am a little nutty on the 2nd project - but hey - I think it is cute, so I went for it!! It is a parrot in birdcage necklace!!

So for both projects - I did some paper piecing to create very colorful parrots.  I stamped the parrot image onto all the bright colored cardstock and trimmed out the pieces of the parrot and then glued it all back together.  I did the reversal - to create both sides of 1 parrot for the first project. only 1 side for the 2nd project

PROJECT 1:
Cut 2 hexagonal pieces, a larger one and a smaller one.  Then trim 1/4 in strips of 12 in paper, you will need 18 of them for the bars and a couple extra for additional supports on the cage.
Adhere strips to largest hexagon as shown:

Score one of the 1/4 in strips and score (in my case every 1.5in) to the dimensions of the medium sized hexagon. Adhere overlapping flaps.
Now I needed something to hold my hexagon strip up, in order to glue 18 strips to, so I had some bead canisters.  I set the hexagon piece on top of the beads, then placed the hexagon strip on top of it.
I then glued the strips to the hexagon strip as shown:
Leave an opening to provide a way of removing the beads.
Next I slipped a tall bottle of paint into the center and place my teeny tiny hexagon on top of lid.
I then adhered all of the strips to the small hexagon as shown:
Remove the bottle.   Then I punched a hole in the parrots head and fed a large wire flat head pin.  determine where to bend the wire, that will allow the parrot to hang just perfectly.  Then use a glue dot and adhere to the small hexagon.  (I did add some extra 1/4 inch pieces for aesthetics about an inch from bottom on bars - but not required) Now you and glue the last strips to the close up the cage.
Lastly, I stamped some of the other images from the kit (leaves, flower, pineapple) and embellish the cage as shown:

I created a VERY simple explosion box and lid to hold the parrot/cage:

PROJECT 2:
Cut a piece of cardstock just about the size of the parrot. Cut 2 circles a large one and a medium one. The large circle needs to be the same width as the cardstock cut.  Once you add the smaller circle - then trim the cardstock piece to angle down to bottom circle as shown:
 Add that adorable parrot!!!
Adhere 5 strips of 1/4 paper onto top of smallest circle.  Cut another identical circle and adhere over the top (to hide the strip ends).

Add some jewelry hardware to make cage into a necklace:
Now adhere the strips to the bottom of the cage.  Cut another circle the same size as bottom and adhere over the strip ends.  Add a flower embellishment.
Add a string and wear with pride - teeheehee - its a bit gawdy and certainly NOT waterproof - but hey its still adorable!!

ClubScrap Artist Team Challenge (November)

NOVEMBER ARTIST CHALLENGE

The November Challenge is to use at least one stamp image or sentiment from either Girlfriends or Enchanted Forest (or both) AND at least one Sparkle Sticker on your layouts, cards or other projects.

Well this month's project is all about solving a problem I have/had. So you all may not know, but I am lil addicted to painting rocks in between my scrapping endeavors. Even if I don't have enough time to run down to my scraproom and craft something, I can always grab a rock and paint pen and draw up something fun in a very short time. So I ordered all of these fabulous paint pens, ok I ordered A LOT of paint pens (I know, I know, nothing YOU would ever do...teeheehee) and various other pens for doodling on my rocks. Enter the problem - trying to find the exact pen I wanted and having pens strewn everywhere...I needed a solution. I have been mulling over how to solve my problem and looked all over the internet for a solution I could just buy -but couldn't find exactly what I wanted...so my solution? Make something. I decided if I made something I could have a marker storage AND an extra storage spot for my little paint pots and miscellaneous stuff. So here we go...

Well since I didn't pre-plan this project, I didn't have any mat board around, so I resorted to recycling a couple of ziploc cardboard boxes to create my new marker holder.

BASE: I trimmed down one piece of cardstock to 9 3/4 x 10 1/2. I marked lines at 1 1/2, 5 1/4, 8 1/4. score on the two outer lines as shown in photo:

CENTER DIVIDER:
Cut a piece of cardstock 6x10 1/2.  Score a 1 inch line along the long edge.  Fold on score line and adhere at the center mark of the base piece as shown:

LONG SIDES:
(Just as a side note, I did end up flipping my box over and leaving the blue 'ziploc' side to the inside of the box.)  Cut (2) pieces of card board 5 x 10 1/2. Adhere to the base flaps as shown:

SHORT SIDES:
Cut (2) pieces of card board 8 3/4 x 6 - score 1 in lines on the two short sides and one long side.

Adhere the short sides to the long sides as shown:
We need stability pieces to hold the center divider in place - I cut 2 pieces, one for each end.  These are 2x4, scored and folded in half.

Adhere the stabilizing pieces to the center divider as shown:

MARKER DIVIDERS:
I just used a heavy cardstock for this. Cut 13 pieces 5x3 3/4, cut 4 pieces 5x10 1/2.  Score every 3/4 inch half way down (2.5 inch) each piece as shown:

 Put together as shown:

Now you can just slip it into the larger of the two compartments of the box:

Adhere a wide ribbon to both sides of the box as shown:
I did end up adding one more little compartment at the end of my smaller compartment to hold paint brushes and gel pens.

Now just simply cover the outside of the box with pattern paper and decorate as you see fit.  In my project I used Enchanted Forest kit - here's some final pictures of the marker box carrier:

Retro Sketch Challenge #239

Good day dear followers...

Boy did a need a quick stamping break tonight...I spent 2 hours weaving in and out of a gillion people at Walmart and Target today. What do these people think its Christmas already?  Did I really need milk and bagels???  I swear some people are just so inconsiderate, blocking aisles for no apparent reason.  I hate to admit it, but I sometimes I day dream about just shoving my shopping cart into their carts - like bumper cars...I never would of course...but I can still day dream right??   I at least got a good sale on soda for the kids' movie night tonight at Target, my one saving grace!!

So I need to quickly post this before the kids show up!  I need to organize a taco (in a bag) bar for them all - but hey can't get much easier than Tacos in a bag - glad I had all the ingredients in the pantry and such.

Today's post is my entry into Retro Sketch Callenge #239 - pretty simple card - but definitely needed the art therapy this afternoon!!

I used Club Scrap Moroccan kit for the card stock; I used Leaves stamps from the Club Scrap Aspen kit.
